Arrive Leh. Day at Leisure, to acclimatize to the rarefied atmosphere of the high altitude of 3500 mts.

Day 2: |

Thiksey Gompa - Reach early to participate in the morning prayers. This is a picturesque monastery atop a craggy hill. Houses the statute of Maitreya (The Future Buddha). This 15m tall statue was made to commensurate the visit of the Dalai Lama to the Gompa.
Hemis Gompa - Famous for the spectacular monastic festival in the month of June. World's biggest Thangka (Religious paintings/scrolls) is housed here and is on display every 12 year.
Shey palace - The summer residence of the King. Strategically located on a spur jutting out in the Indus valley. The palace houses a large statute of The Buddha built by Nepalese artisans.

Pangong Lake - At an altitude of almost 4,500 meters, the Pangong Tso is only 8 km wide at its broadest but is an amazing 134 km long.. The Pangong is a delight to the eye. With its almost 2,000 square kilometers of turquoise water and a depth of 100 meters, Pangong can baffle the eye, for in the rarefied atmosphere distant objects appear to be right next door. This Lake sprawls over both Ladakh and Tibetan territory. Pangong is a saltwater Lake and a remnant from the ice age. |

Khardung La top - The World's highest motor able pass (5602m). In the south, the Zanskar and Stok ranges dominate the horizon. In the North falls the Saser range with the Saser Kangri Peak (7670m), 100m above the Mount Everest Base camp. Enjoy the picturesque scenery of mountains. A bird's eye view of Ladakh terrains. |
